Useful Information - CharityWhy run for charity?
It needs a great amount of self-discipline, determination and a will to reach the finishing line. There will be many times when you will think of throwing in the towel, but with self-motivation, the help of other competitors, those depending on you at home and the charity will all help you get to the end. Having a charity who will benefit from your participation will improve your chances of raising sponsorship, and some charities will subsidise your costs given a guarantee of a good return. A sick child, an AIDS sufferer, a cancer or MS patient, a suffering animal, an endangered species will get some benefit from your supreme efforts through the charity that you are competing for. We all have someone we know and love who has suffered some terrible illness and wondered what we can do to help - well, this is your chance to make up for lost time. Facing Africa
NOMA is a vicious and deadly gangrene that eats away the flesh around the mouth and face of children. Perhaps 70 - 90% of these children die but for those who survive, there is the tragic situation where their faces are so disfigured that they are rejected by their societies. Facing Africa works in co-operation with similar charities around the world to promote awareness of NOMA and to send out medical teams to the countries most affected by NOMA to carry out facial reconstruction work and help train the local medical staff. By using your challenge to raise the profile of NOMA and raise money for Facing Africa you will help fight NOMA. In return it is possible that Facing Africa will help subside your costs. Many competitors in the Marathon Des Sables have already used their place in the event to raise substantial sums for Facing Africa.
