Survival of the fittest

An excellent book by Dr Mike Stroud OBE who accompanied Sir Ranulph Feinnes in 1992/93 on the first unsupported crossing of Antarctic and is a specialist doctor in human endurance. He also competed in the MdS in 1994 and his book contains a complete chapter on his experience and some very useful medical advice - written in lay terms (food, dehydration, equipment etc)

Marathon Des Sables by Clive Gott

This competitor of the 2006 MdS, has written an honest and emotional book telling his story about how he completed the hardest footrace in the world in 2006. A 'what it's like' book, not a how-to guide.

Ambition Events

A series of events created by Marathon des Sables veterans to prepare you for Morocco. They are coupled with seminars and an active online community to enable you to reach the finish line in Morocco in greater physical and mental shape.

Marathon of Britain

The Marathon of Britain is an event based around the Marathon des Sables endurance race concept but (obviously) held in the UK. It is arranged by a 4 times competitor of the MdS, with future places booked.

Thames Meander

Established in 1999, intended to replicate the conditions of Marathon des Sables stage 4 (as closely as is possible in Britain). This is the hardest stage and the distance is usually 48 to 54 miles across desert.
